Egypt Macro I Investment-driven growth as the way forward

Political scene stabilizing. Formulation of parliament following elections scheduled for March and April 2015 will mark a new phase of domestic stability. Structural reforms have been the theme of the new cabinet with a focus on reforming the investment environment, rebalancing government finances, and reducing government debt. Reforms will open the way for higher rates of private investments, especially coinciding with a historically low base of investment growth. The gradual implementation of infrastructure projects, with a total cost of EGP280bn, lies at the core of the current investment theme with spill-over benefits to a group of sectors which represent at least 30% of GDP. A rebound in FDIs is a key factor in the investment equation, which we expect to reach USD8bn in FY14/15. Meanwhile, consumption will continue to provide support to economic activity, yet at a stable rate consistent with the historical trend.
