Tomra (Sell, TP: NOK75.00) - Good news was a reverse from Q3

After Tomra’s share price sold off by 23% on the Q3 results, it was up by 31% on the strong Q4 report. Post-Q3 consensus was negative revenue growth YOY for all segments. We expect consensus 2024–2025e EPS to come up c10%+, and have raised our 2024–2025e EPS by 4%, based on the guidance. We still find a P/E 2024e of 28x demanding when 2024e revenue growth is a modest 3% YOY, and we believe the longer-term growth prospects are also uncertain given DRS roll-out delays and uncertainties. We reiterate our SELL and NOK75 target price.

We reiterate our view that Tomra’s price reflects too-lofty earnings growth expectations and highlight that earnings growth has been absent in recent years in spite of an expanding top line. Tomra’s EPS declined by ~6% in 2022 and we estimate a further decline in 2023 (particularly driven by a soft EBITA contribution in Food in 2023). We have reduced our 2024–2025e by ~2% on slightly lower order intake expectations from Recycling. We reiterate our SELL and NOK75 target price.

Tomra (Sell, TP: NOK75.00) - Another soft data point

The Q3 results were weak, with EBITA missing consensus by 26%. We reiterate our SELL and have cut our target price to NOK75 (100), as we have lowered our long-term growth assumption for deposit return scheme (DRS) sales from 9% to 6%. This comes after France said it would not implement DRS. Given France’s EU influence, we believe other EU states are less likely to implement DRS, reducing Tomra’s growth prospects.

Holmen (Sell, TP: SEK370.00) - Weak earnings momentum

We consider Holmen a quality company and continue to like its shareholder-friendly strategy. However, as c50% of the 2023 EBIT was derived from the traditional paper business (for which addressable markets are shrinking), and with still-tough markets for the paperboard business and lower spot prices for electricity affecting the renewable power business, we expect earnings to decline for 2024. Given relatively rich earnings multiples, we reiterate our SELL and SEK370 target price.

VEF wrote up its portfolio by 1% QOQ in Q1 (in USD terms). We believe the underlying portfolio performance remains healthy, and the USD10m up round in TransferGo strengthens our conviction in VEF’s NAV valuations as VC dealmaking continues to pick up after a lacklustre 2023. In light of these developments, we find the 56% discount to NAV excessive and expect a positive re-rating as VEF looks to make an exit this year. We reiterate our BUY and have raised our target price to SEK3.5 (3.4).
