Valaris (Buy, TP: USD41.00) - Another driller with a fresh start

Having emerged from Chapter 11 with a fresh balance sheet, Valaris equity started trading yesterday. Although its backlog profile is thin, resulting in limited near-term EBITDA, we note the jack-up segment looks significantly better than its floaters. Unlike Noble, there is little support on earnings multiples in the near term, but it screens as attractive on asset values (even assuming further retirements). Hence, based on our NAV, we are resuming coverage with a BUY (NO REC), and a target price of USD41.

Ensco is an offshore contract drilling company engaged in providing offshore contract drilling services to the international oil and gas industry. As of Dec 31 2017, Co. owned and operated an offshore drilling rig fleet of 62 rigs. Co.'s rig fleet includes 12 drillships, 11 semisubmersible rigs, four moored semisubmersible rigs and 38 jackup rigs, including rigs under construction. Co.'s business consists of three operating segments: floaters, which includes its drillships and semisubmersible rigs; jackups; and other, which consists of management services on rigs owned by third-parties. Co.'s two reportable segments, floaters and jackups, provide one service, contract drilling.

Petrobras UDW rig selection

For the Petrobras tender for high-specification UDW rigs, updates suggest that it has made a rig selection. The tender was split into two categories (with and without MPD) and called for a duration of three years with start-up in September 2022. As previously reported, Seadrill had presented the lowest bid in the MPD category, and updates now suggest that two Seadrill UDW 7G drillships, West Tellus and West Carina, have been selected. The rigs were offered at dayrates of USD230k and USD245k, respectively, and we expect awards to be made at, or around, those levels.

In the three Petrobras tenders for low-spec UDW rigs that had bids due late last week, things were ‘back to normal’ compared to the solid dayrates in its recent tender for high-spec UDW rigs. Now, local (and Indian) contractors emerged as the low bidders and dayrates offered were mostly in the high USD100k/low USD200k, representing an expected downtick from the recent high-spec tender. Danske Bank (Buy, TP: DKK235.00) - Distributions slow, but approaching

Helped by low loan losses and modest cost inflation, Danske Bank reported a Q1 ROE of 12.9%. Noting one less interest day, NII fell 0.7% QOQ adjusted for reported one-offs. While down ~30bp QOQ following the buyback programme announced in February, the bank’s CET1 ratio remains strong at 18.5% versus its >16% target. We have trimmed our target price to DKK235 (237), but with the stock trading at a 2025e P/E of ~6.9x, we find the valuation attractive and reiterate our BUY.
