(GSS) was launched in July 1989 and was one of the first emerging markets funds to be listed in the UK. It aims to deliver long-term capital growth through investing in emerging and frontier market equities following an in-depth fundamental approach. The fund’s benchmark is the MSCI Emerging Markets index. However, the manager is not constrained by the benchmark and focuses on investing in high-quality companies with above average sustainable long-term growth. The portfolio reflects the manager’s highest conviction stocks and is typically meaningfully different from the benchmark.In this webcast, Arindam Bhattacharjee explains GSS’s investment objective and gives a brief background on the manager, Genesis Asset Managers, and discusses its investment approach. He also discusses the outlook for emerging markets and the case for investing in the asset class, how the fund has performed and how it is currently positioned.
Genesis Emerging Markets Fund is a Guernsey based authorized closed-ended investment scheme, which is managed by Genesis Asset Managers, LLP. Co. primarily invest in equity markets of developing countries. The investments of Co. are principally in listed equities. At June 30 2017, Co.'s investments of $1.28 billion were measured at fair value and consisted of a portfolio of primarily quoted securities from emerging markets. As of June 30 2017, Co.'s portfolio consists of a diversified group of 125 companies from 36 countries (including several businesses at the smaller end of the opportunity set).
