KION Group opens India's largest material handling equipment facility in Pune - KION India consolidates strong position in important growth market; - Capital expenditure of around EUR15 million for expansion of Pune site; - More than 100 new jobs to be created; - Cutting-edge R&D center built; - 700 KVA solar power facility installed. Frankfurt/Main, 28. November 2019 - KION GROUP AG has officially launched its new plant - India's largest production facility for intralogistics equipment - in Pune, Maharashtra. Diesel and electric forklifts as well as battery-powered lift trucks and reach trucks are manufactured in the ultra-modern plant on an area of around 25 hectares (roughly 62 acres). The new plant is equipped with a total of three assembly lines including a paint shop, parts warehouse and an R&D center, where the constantly changing requirements and trends of the Indian market are to be evaluated and corresponding future products developed. In addition, the new plant has a solar power plant with 700 kilowatt amperes for energy generation as well as in-house processes for water conservation and waste management. "KION Group continues to invest in India, looking at the growth opportunity available here. We realized the Indian market has been growing very rapidly and the demand for high performance products has been increasing as well, which is the domain of KION Group," states CP Quek, Chief Asia Pacific Officer and a member of KION's Executive Board, attending the launch ceremonies. Capital expenditure will amount to approximately EUR15 million. The globally positioned intralogistics provider is creating more than 100 additional jobs in Pune. "The new factory represents our long-term commitment to the market here in India, its customers, employees, vendors and our channel partners," explains Sunil K Gupta, President of KION India Private Limited. KION in India The KION Group has had a presence in India, an important growth market, since 2011. KION India has been the country's leading industrial truck and warehouse technology vendor since 2016 through sales of the well-known Italian brand, OM, and its Indian-Italian brand, OM Voltas. In addition to the OM and OM Voltas products, KION India also sells industrial trucks, warehouse technology and services from Baoli in China and the German premium brand, Linde, allowing the Group to serve the premium, value and economy segments. The range includes diesel forklift trucks from 1.5 to 16 metric tons, electric forklift trucks from 1.5 to 3.5 metric tons as well as industrial trucks, warehouse technology and intralogistics services. KION India has recently begun launching new automated supply chain solutions from KION brand Dematic on the market. The company has a production facility in Pune in Western India as well as a countrywide sales and service network consisting of over 40 locations and dealerships with over 100 sales outlets.
