UK Housebuilding Sector in Q3 2015

On 31 October, the Final of the Rugby World Cup (RWC) will be contested at Twickenham. Will the New Zealand All Blacks prevail to become the first team to win it consecutively (and the first to win it three times)?

If the listed UK Housebuilders were rugby teams, our guess is that Berkeley would be the All Blacks with Tony Pidgley as the record breaking captain, Richie McCaw. In turn, Persimmon would be the South African Springboks - both formidable and both named after wonderful creatures.

For Barratt read Australia - brash and never say die, while Taylor Wimpey is France - blessed with flair and the ability to surprise.

Bellway is England - able and dignified with a super long term record (and still the sole Northern Hemisphere nation to win the Webb Ellis Trophy pictured on our cover). Meantime, Redrow is Wales which is where it is headquartered; both also have a first class record and outstanding captains.

We have twinned Bovis with Argentina: both polished and both forces to be reckoned with.

Crest Nicholson is tagged with Scotland - playing really well and one of the surprise packages of the tournament so far.

Telford is Italy - classy but under-rated.

And, finally, Abbey and Ireland are paired: the Company is domiciled there; both are winners; and both have fine leaders.

The inherent qualities of Team UK Housebuilders - skill and fitness - have prevailed in the third quarter of 2015 as shock after palpable shock has rocked the equity market (not to mention Japan beating South Africa in the RWC).

The biggest hits have come in natural resources, particularly collapsing prices; and the Chinese economy, the World 15's Number Two, also appears to be concussed.
