The clay deposit is near-surface, can be mined as a low-cost open pit and heap leach and is simple to process. This, combined with low capex requirements, make Makuutu an attractive source to supply the growing demand for rare earth elements. Uniquely, Makuutu’s basket of metals is weighted to heavy rare earth elements, which are in even shorter supply and attract a price premium.
