Asustek’s Upbeat 1Q Profits Were Encumbered by One-Off Settlement Provision; Shares Fairly Valued

Thanks to improving profitability due to organizational restructuring, no-moat Asustek’s TWD 4.47 billion first-quarter recurring profit, increasing 22% year over year, was ahead of our expectation, although net profit dropped 35% from last year to TWD 2.38 billion. This was due to a one-off euro 65 million provision for anticipated fines from the European Commission, which launched an investigation into improper maintenance of retail prices in February 2017.
