Muted Inflation Convinces Fed to Take a Breather
The Federal Reserve chose to stand pat at its latest meeting, despite slowly improving economic activity. Positive news includes the expansion of both household spending and business fixed investment, but inflation still remains below the central bank’s goal of 2%. In our view, the lack of inflation pressure supports the thesis that current monetary policy is not overly accommodative due to continuing long-term trends in global demographics, technology, and credit demand.
