Healthy loan growth during the year and higher dollar volume flowing through the Discover network were offset by rising credit costs and rewards spending in the company’s first quarter. Balance sheet loans expanded by 8% as total network volume grew by 5% on a 3% increase in transactions over the past 12 months.
