GM's January Sales Slightly Outperform the Industry; Strong Cadillac Mix Is a Good Sign

Automakers started U.S. sales reporting with January’s results on Feb. 1. January is often the weakest month of the year because of its timing after Christmas and winter weather, so we will reserve passing opinion on how the year is progressing until after March’s results. For 2018 we expect sales in the range of 16.6 million-16.8 million because we anticipate leasing penetration to decline as automakers will not want to take on more residual value risk in a declining used vehicle price environm...
