Mild Weather Factor in Weak 2Q for Great Plains; Merger Approval Should Go Faster Second Time Around

We are reaffirming our $27 per share fair value estimate and our no-moat and stable moat trend ratings after Great Plains Energy reported adjusted earnings of $0.43 per share in the second quarter versus $0.55 in the year-ago period. Mild weather was the most significant variance, accounting for $0.09 per share of the difference. However, a positive was the continued strong growth in weather-normalized demand, which benefited EPS by $0.05 in the second quarter and $0.07 for the year to date.
