A Few Items Under the Hood, but Hang Seng Bank Posts Solid First-Half Result
While the sustainability of the net interest margin increase in the second half is uncertain and a boost in mark-to-market gains underpinned higher trading income, it is hard to deny that Hang Seng Bank posted a solid first-half result. First-half net profit was strong at HKD 9.8 billion, compared with HKD 8 billion in the year-ago period and HKD 8.2 million in second-half 2016.
