Tighter capacity should rekindle contract pricing for Heartland and its peers in 2018.
In the third quarter, full-truckload carrier Heartland Express’ revenue before fuel surcharges increased 20% year over year, primarily driven by the July 2017 acquisition of truckload carrier IDC, which bolsters Heartland’s network density in the Western half of the U.S. The firm didn’t disclose organic operating trends for legacy Heartland, but we suspect its revenue before fuel was still down (year over year) because of previous fleet-management efforts over the past year, which have pressured...Heartland Express is a holding company. Through its subsidiaries, the company is engaged as a short-to-medium haul truckload carrier. The company primarily provides asset-based dry van truckload service for shippers from Washington to Florida and New England to California. The company also provides temperature-controlled truckload services, which are not significant to its operations. The company operates terminal facilities throughout the contiguous United States in addition to its terminal and corporate headquarters in North Liberty, IA.
