Intel Announces Spin-Out of McAfee Security Unit; No Change to $31 Fair Value Estimate
Intel announced on Sept. 7 that it would spin out its security unit into an independent cybersecurity company valued at $4.2 billion. Alongside private equity firm TPG, the firm will establish a second incarnation of McAfee in a deal that effectively reverses Intel’s $7.68 billion acquisition of McAfee announced in 2010. This move was initially rumored back in June, and thus completes current CEO Brian Krzanich’s sun-setting of former CEO Paul Otellini’s unsuccessful endeavors (including Intel’s...Intel is a data-centric company.
