Morningstar | Strong Performance and Flows Continue to Drive Magellan

Magellan Financial Group is a successful Australia-based active international equity and infrastructure fund manager. Earnings growth is underpinned by strong growth in funds under management, complemented by increasing performance fees. A track record of long-term investment outperformance supports our expectations for further growth in FUM. Major earnings risks come from the need to maintain good investment returns and the relatively more volatile nature of large institutional mandates. Attractive long-term industry dynamics are supported by expectations of increasing numbers of Australian investors seeking international equity exposure to diversify typically Australia-centric portfolios. Magellan focuses on risk-adjusted returns over the medium to long term, rather than benchmark-relative returns, while seeking to reduce the risk of permanent capital loss.
