Marathon Petroleum Meets Fourth-Quarter Expectations, Remains Our Preferred Play in Refining

After already updating its strategic plan in early January and reporting earnings that largely met expectations, there was little of note in Marathon Petroleum’s fourth-quarter earnings. Capital spending guidance for 2017 of $1.7 billion for Marathon Petroleum and $1.7 billion for MPLX, its master limited partnership, was slightly above our forecast, but not enough to merit a change in our fair value estimate.
