New York Community Bancorp Turns in Usual Stability in Third Quarter; Waiting for Astoria to Close
New York Community Bancorp remains somewhat at a standstill, as its results largely remain unchanged while waiting for the transformative Astoria merger to receive its final regulatory approvals. We plan to maintain our $18 fair value estimate and narrow moat rating. At this point, it seems possible that the Astoria close could slip into 2017, but recent management commentary indicates a fourth-quarter close, and we’re not aware of meaningful regulatory pushback on the transaction.
