Schlumberger Bullish That the Industry’s Recovery Is Finally Here
Schlumberger reported fourth-quarter results on Jan. 20, and the broader recovery story for the company is largely on track. In our words, it can be summarized as follows: After $6 billion of charges and write-downs during 2015-16, the company enters 2017 right-sized and in a great position to profitably benefit from the eventual cyclical recovery in oil and gas investment. The company has four segments: Reservoir Characterization, which consists of the principal technologies involved in finding and defining hydrocarbon resources; Drilling, which consists of the principal technologies involved in the drilling and positioning of oil and gas wells; Production, which consists of the principal technologies involved in the lifetime production of oil and gas reservoirs; and Cameron, which consists of the principal technologies involved in pressure and flow control for drilling and intervention rigs, oil and gas wells and production facilities.
