Smith & Nephew Remains a Formidable Innovator, but Scale Is a Challenge
Smith & Nephew posted decent quarterly growth that was consistent with our expectations, and we’re leaving our fair value estimate unchanged. The narrow-moat company saw particular strength in its sports medicine and joint repair, knees, and emerging-markets segments. We remain impressed with management’s ability to think creatively and maneuver into new areas of adjacent business in the face of industry dynamics that have become more difficult for smaller companies such as Smith & Nephe...Smith & Nephew is a global medical devices business operating in the markets for advanced surgical devices comprising orthopaedic reconstruction and trauma, sports medicine and advanced wound management.
