Southwest Misses Consensus for Second Quarter 2016, and Management Provides Challenging Outlook

Southwest Airlines reported second-quarter results that missed consensus, and management provided a poor outlook for unit revenue, which spooked investors and sent the stock down over 10%. We maintain our no-moat rating and have cut our fair value estimate to $46 from $50 as a result of this increasingly challenging outlook.
