Sprint bounces back from the brink but is still mired in fourth place among U.S. wireless carriers.

Sprint delivered first-quarter total revenue growth slightly ahead of consensus expectations and its first quarterly profit in three years. Management slightly increased full-year guidance at the low end. Total revenue rose 2% year over year due to strong equipment revenue growth, partially offset by continued declines in wireless service and wireline revenue. Cost-cutting initiatives helped adjusted EBITDA margins expand to 35% from 31% a year ago. Far more important than the results themselves...
