Windstream Picks Up Complementary Assets Via EarthLink, Posts In-Line 3Q Results
Windstream has joined the telecom M&A frenzy, announcing plans to acquire EarthLink in a $1.1 billion all-stock transaction that includes the assumption of $436 million of debt. We believe this deal is a positive for Windstream, adding complementary assets at a reasonable price. That Windstream shareholders will own only 51% of the combined firm, though EarthLink generates less than one fifth the revenue, reflects the large debt load Windstream carries and the resulting very high uncertainty...Windstream Holdings is a holding company.
