Since the end of the Great Recession in 2010, GDP growth in France has lagged that of Germany’s by an average of 0.5 points per annum. Amongst the causes of this underperformance, the usual suspects are the poor competitiveness of France’s economy and its bad positioning in terms of exports, the rigidity of the labour market, and a tighter budgetary constraint.
