Monthly Review - February 2026 - From fears about artificial intelligence to fears about actual war
In February, with the strong sell-off in software and other sectors considered, excessively in our view, to be the "losers of generative AI", European equities clearly outperformed US equities, with a return of the "old economy" and an outperformance from staples and defensives. Long-term rates had already fallen, as if in anticipation of what is now becoming the main cause for concern: the war in Iran and its consequences for the price and delivery of oil & gas from the Middle East.
