Not all megawatts are created equal for Mother Nature

Nature is no longer merely a token ESG issue for integrated utilities, it represents a significant impact and dependency, as well as risks relating to assets, production and even valuation. Our study reveals a clear hierarchy of impacts and dependencies, with hydroelectricity posing the greatest risk, gas and nuclear power also having significant negative impacts, and wind and solar more manageable when well established. With the TNFD, the issue is gradually forming part of market discipline. Our analysis, based on CSRD/ESRS reporting standards, leads us to believe that Iberdrola is leading the way, Enel is following, Engie is keeping pace, whilst Naturgy, EDP and Endesa are lagging behind.
