Last week, the European Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee approved its position on a series of amendments to the CSRD and CSDDD directives. According to a new report by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) reached unprecedented levels in 2024, with a record increase and leading to additional long-term warming. On the social side, Nestlé is set to cut nearly 16,000 jobs worldwide as part of a cost-cutting programme. Viscofan has been the subject of allegations concerning environmental violations and employee health and safety issues at a factory in the US. In business ethics, the European Commission fined fashion brands Gucci (Kering group), Chloé (Richemont) and Loewe (LVMH) for fixing resale prices in violation of EU competition rules. In governance, Nexans parted ways with Christopher Guérin (CEO), who was replaced by Julien Hueber with immediate effect. Glass Lewis announced that from 2027, it would no longer propose its “benchmark” voting recommendations but would instead offer customised options to its clients.
