Last week, we published a flash note following the TotalEnergies' CMD, which was marked by a reallocation of capital to the detriment of renewables. At the European level, MEPs failed to reach an agreement on the Omnibus sustainability package. The European Environment Agency (EEA) highlighted growing environmental risks and mixed progress on climate and biodiversity. Electricity consumption by European data centres is expected to triple by 2035, according to The Shift Project. The Council of State has ruled that Imerys' EMILI project, as a project of major national interest, may derogate from the ban on the destruction of protected species. The NZBA has ceased operations following a vote by its members. On the social side, Stellantis will temporarily halt operations at its Mulhouse plant in France from 27 October to 2 November 2025, citing the need to adjust production to lower European demand. Accenture is laying off employees deemed obsolete by AI. Lufthansa has announced the elimination of 4,000 administrative jobs by 2030. In business ethics, the Veolia group is being taken to the industrial tribunal for failing in its duty of care. In terms of governance, GSK has announced the appointment of Luke Miels as CEO from January 2026. The CEO of Soitec will leave the group for personal reasons in March 2026.
