The eurozone starts 2026 on an encouraging footing

If Americans weren't so eager to wage war on their obesity, growth in the eurozone would have been 40% lower in 2025 (explained hereafter in this Flash). But let's not be picky: 1.5% growth in a very turbulent international environment is a satisfactory result. Contributions to growth vary widely. Two countries, Ireland and Spain, representing 20% of the zone's GDP, will account for over 60% of the increase in real GDP in 2025. A rebalancing is hoped for in 2026 in the form of a recovery in the German economy thanks to its stimulus plan. The external environment, marked by US protectionism and aggressive competition from China, will remain a brake.
