US economic recovery marks a pause
All the major economic aggregates rebounded sharply in May thanks to the reopening of the US economy. The improvement continued in June albeit at a weaker pace. However, in recent weeks, the rise in the number of coronavirus cases appears to have suspended the recovery. We are inclined to interpret this as a pause rather than the start of a relapse, as there is a greater understanding of the pandemic risk than was the case a few months ago.
