Just a few months ago, articles abounded about US exceptionalism. Everything was going well: the real economy, stock market performance, and the undisputed progress in the development of AI. The election of Donald Trump was synonymous with tax cuts and deregulation, enough to make the United States even more exceptional. Reality proved somewhat different. There was the DeepSeek shock in January. Then the stock market turned down (it has lost 10% from its peak). The deregulation entrusted to Elon Musk is triggering considerable anxiety without producing many government spending cuts. What about the real economy, and more specifically the consumer?
