Where are we in the Eurozone business cycle? (1. Overview)
It is usual to reduce the business cycle to two states: recession and expansion. This approach is slightly misleading as it does not factor in the alternation of the boom and normalisation phases, which is the general fate of all expansions. Due to a positive external demand shock, the Eurozone experienced a boom in 2017, i.e. real GDP growth well ahead of its potential rate.
