Real Estate Roundup - January 2021

Performance

The boost of coming out of the second national lockdown in early December was short lived as Christmas was cancelled for most of the UK with COVID-19 cases spiking. It did little to dampen investor appetite for real estate stocks, however, with the vaccination programme in the UK getting underway. Retail-focused companies, that have seen significant share price falls since the onset of COVID-19, were among the highest risers in December including Capital & Regional, NewRiver REIT and Hammerson.

Valuation moves

There were some big valuation moves reported in December, including Schroder European REIT posting a double-digit rise in NAV.

Corporate activity

Aberdeen Standard Investments bought a 60% stake in logistics specialist fund manager Tritax Management, the manager of Tritax Big Box and Tritax EuroBox.

Major news stories

Portfolio reconstructions continued with both British Land and Land Securities making chunky London office sales.
