ISM manufacturing was stronger than expected in June; widespread tariff-related concerns

The ISM manufacturing index was stronger than forecasts, rising to 60.2 in June from 58.7 in May. Industry comments in the report focused on two issues: first uncertainties, price pressures, and supply chain issues related to tariffs; second, transportation-related issues, especially trucking. We view the report as showing increasing microeconomic supply strains in the face of strengthening manufacturing growth.
