MARKETS YESTERDAY AND TODAY

Fears of new variants
Global stock markets fell after the sharp rise in new-strain Covid cases in the UK and after several European and Asian governments placed restrictions on travel from the British Isles. In the Euro STOXX, the best-performing sectors were those that lagged the most last week, Technology and Communications, while Travel & Leisure and Energy suffered the biggest losses. On the macro side there were very few references. From the ECB, Luis de Guindos warned of the effects of the second round of inflation, although he expects it to remain below the organisation's target in the medium term. He also insisted that European bank profitability levels are being dragged down by excess capacity, warning about some signs of credit deterioration. On another note, the chairman of the Bundesbank, J. Weidmann, bet on lowering the ECB purchases gradually in view of the higher-than-expected inflation risks. In the UK, the idea of a tourist corridor between the US and UK at the end of June fades away in view of the increasing number of cases of the Delta variant and the lack of political agreement. In Spain, the Govt. announced the 2Q'21 GDP will grow 18% (strong, but expected recovery). In the US, banks announced as strong share and dividend buyback.
What we expect for today
European stock markets would open with a slightly bullish slant, with value narrowly outperforming growth, but with the energy sector hurt by Brent and the proximity of the OPEC+ meeting (on Thursday). Currently, S&P futures are down -0.11% (the S&P 500 ended up +0.21% vs. its price at the closing bell in Europe). Volatility in the US increased (VIX 15.76). Asian markets are falling (China's CSI -1% and Japan's Nikkei -0.95%).
Today in Spain we will learn June's preliminary inflation and May's retail sales, in Germany June'es preliminary inflation and in the euro zone June's economic sentiment index.

COMPANY NEWS

CIE AUTOMOTIVE. CMD'21: Long-term approach. BUY
CIE focused its CMD'21 on a long-term approach (2025), setting a sales growth target'25 ~+20pp above the sector between 2020 and 2025 (+48% vs. +42% BS(e)) and an EBITDA margin target >19% (vs. 18.1% BS(e)). Including inorganic growth, the target would exceed € 1 Bn of EBITDA (vs. around € 800 M implied in the organic guidance; € 431 M in 2020). Thus, despite the short-term uncertainties stemming from the possible impact on the economy from the Indian strain of Covid and the situational shortage of microchips, we raise our estimates for CIE (CAGR'20-25e in EBITDA up to +11.4% from +10.0%) and our T.P. by +14% up to € 29.31/sh., yielding +17%, and thus we also change our recommendation to BUY (SELL since February'21; -4% vs. IBEX since then).
