IBERIAN DAILY 28 NOVEMBER (ANÁLISIS BANCO SABADELL)

NEWS SUMMARY: BANKING SECTOR, IBERDROLA, SANTANDER, TELEFÓNICA.

The IBEX continues to be the best performer in Europe
In a session of scant macro releases that ended worse than it began (despite the strong tightening in sovereign debt yields), most European indices closed with moderate losses, except for the IBEX, which ended flat. Thus, in the STOXX 600 most sectors closed with losses, led by Travel & Leisure and Chemicals, with the best performers being Real Estate and Utilities. From the ECB, Muller suggested there will be no more rate hikes, whereas Lagarde warned that in its upcoming meeting the ECB could begin to discuss the future of the reinvestment of the PEPP. On the macro side, in the US the macro backdrop continued to worsen, with both October’s new home sales and the Dallas Fed manufacturing activity index falling more than expected. On the geopolitical side, Israel and Hamas agreed to extend their ceasefire for another two days.
What we expect for today
European stock markets would open with slight losses, although with very few drivers. Currently, S&P futures are up +0.09% (the S&P 500 ended flat vs. the European closing bell). Volatility in the US rose (VIX 12.69). Asian stock markets are falling (China’s CSI 300 -0.03%, Japan’s Nikkei -0.12%).
Today in the US we will learn Conference Board consumer confidence and November’s Richmond Fed index.
