IBERIAN DAILY 19 NOVEMBER (ANÁLISIS BANCO SABADELL)

NEWS SUMMARY: ENCE, FCC, LIBERBANK, MAPFRE.

MARKETS YESTERDAY AND TODAY

Consolidating levels
Without relevant news on the trade talks and the euro’s appreciation left the European stock markets with slight losses despite the fact that the US hit new record highs. Within the Euro STOXX, Real Estate and Financial Services led gains, vs. the drops in cyclical sectors that had previously been the best performers, such as Auto and Basic Resources. On the macro side, in Europe, the Bundesbank expects the economy to stagnate in 4Q’19, although it deems that the risk of a recession is low, expecting the German manufacturing industry to stabilise in 2020. L. de Guindos made a similar statement, claiming once again an expansive fiscal policy from those countries having greater leeway. In the US, November’s NAHB index was disappointing again, falling slightly. From the Fed, D. Trump met with J. Powell and claimed again lower rates and a weaker dollar.
What we expect for today
The main European indices would open with slight gains of +0.3%.
Currently, S&P futures are down -0.14% (the S&P 500 closed largely unchanged vs. its price at the closing bell in Europe). Volatility in the US rose (VIX 12.46%). The Asian markets that are open are trading with mixed results (Hong Kong +1.17% and Japan -0.53%).
Today in the US we will learn housing starts and building permits for October. In US business results, Home Depot, TJX Cos and Kohl’s, among others, will release their earnings. Debt auctions: Spain (€ 3.5 Bn in 3M and 9M t-bills).
