Commitment from all the central banks?
The rise in debt curves ahead of the Fed meeting did not take its toll on European stock markets, which ended with slight gains, due partly to Lagarde’s commitment to continuist monetary policy (as she once again ruled out a debate on ending ECB aid) and to the possibility that the BoJ may extend stimulus measures to drive recovery. The best performers in the Euro STOXX were Energy and Utilities, whereas the biggest losers were Autos and Travel & Leisure. On the macro side, in Spain the BoS raised its growth forecasts for 2021 to 6.2% YoY vs. the previous 6.0% and for 2022 to 5.8% from the previous 5.2%. In the euro zone, April’s industrial output showed a twofold increase over expectations. In the UK, Boris Johnson will, as expected, delay the end of restrictions for another 4 weeks (expected on 21 June) due to the high incidence of the Delta variant. In Brazil, April’s economic activity index rose less than expected. On the geopolitical front, NATO will reinforce its position and warned about the threats of China’s military ambitions.

The European stock markets would open with gains
