The operation of the Hydrogen Fuel Station and an experimental public transport initiative are part of the ECTOS project (Ecological City Transport System), sponsored by Icelandic New Energy. The project's objective is the research and development of hydrogen use and distribution, its commercial and social effects and its future opportunities to replace fossil fuels in the Icelandic community.
