EME Macro/Strategy: Digitalisation – growth, inflation & political repercussions

The monetary tightening cycle has begun in CE4, with the Czech and Hungarian central banks increasing their respective policy rates in June. How big will the tightening cycle be? Wil it end in a serious recession? What will be the consequences for the currency? How big is the inflation problem in CE4 and globally? This report strives to provide a framework to enable these questions to be thought about with a long-term horizon; to do so, first, we take a step back and discuss what we see as the most important trend that is unfolding globally: digitalisation. Digitalisation has profound implications for productivity, in our view; therefore, it will have important implications for the potential GDP growth of countries, their sovereign credit risk and the long-term trajectory of currencies.
