EME Macro/Strategy: macro all-in-one (21-27 October)

Last week’s events, which we cover in this edition of our weekly, included the early business surveys from Czechia, Poland, and Türkiye, indicating varied trends in industrial sentiment and consumer outlooks. We also highlight the outcomes from the latest BRICS summit, with Türkiye’s interest in joining the bloc, amid resistance from India, while Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan participated as partners. In Poland, a surprising decline in retail sales signals potential for an earlier-than-expected rate cut, while Hungary’s Central Bank has opted for a prolonged pause, at 6.50%. Lastly, we examine the recent elections and policy updates in Georgia and Uzbekistan. In Georgia, Georgian Dream secured a 53.9% majority, but fell short of a supermajority. The opposition and President Zurabishvili rejected the results, calling for protests.
