EME Strategy: MSCI delays reclassification of Kuwait until November SAIR

Yesterday (8 April), after the market closed, the MSCI announced that the upgrade of Kuwait from Frontier to the Emerging universe will be postponed from the May Semi-Annual Index Review (SAIR) until the November SAIR (changes effective from 1 December). The index provider said that: “the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the ability of international institutional investors to fully perform all the preparation work required ahead of the implementation” is the reason for the delay in the reclassification. Nonetheless, the MSCI stressed that Kuwait still meets all the requirements for an upgrade to the EM universe.
