WOOD Flash – Nuclearelectrica: strategy for continuing Units 3 and 4 project

Last week, Nuclearelectrica published its strategy for the development of reactors 3 and 4, which consists of completing and commissioning two CANDU 6-type units at the Cernavoda NPP site, with installed capacity of a minimum of 2x 724 MWe. This strategy needs to be approved by the shareholders at the GMS, called for 5 April 2021, and is made up of three stages, which are expected to last between 9 and 10.5 years. The signing of the EPC is already scheduled in the first stage, within two years from the approval of the strategy, with Unit 3 expected to be commissioned in 2030E and Unit 4 in 2031E. The most recent statements from the CEO, cited by the media, point to total construction costs of c.EUR 7bn.
