Wizz Air: bracing for winter, waiting for spring (stays BUY)

We expect Wizz Air to have achieved a relatively-decent summer, mainly on stable yoy ex-fuel CASK (caskx). We maintain our negative view on the coming winter, however, and have adjusted our loss estimates upwards, as fast growth by Ryanair in several of Wizz Air’s key markets collides with the company’s own capacity acceleration. This could put pressure on yields and exacerbate losses. While things may get worse before they start getting better, we believe that upside risks prevail from the current discounted levels. The pivot to slower growth and shorter stage lengths should be welcomed by the market, and could benefit RASK. Fleet unparking by the end of CY2027E should deliver meaningful utilisation and efficiency benefits, as should PW’s HS+ engine upgrades and the new Advantage engines. We have reduced our 12M PT to GBP 14, mainly on winter losses and a longer unparking timeline.
