WOOD Flash – CE4 macro: CE3 performing well, but Romania sliding

This week’s release of 1Q GDP data contained a few surprises: most notably, a much sharper than expected deceleration in Romanian GDP growth. While a slowdown was anticipated (the sentiment data had indicated a softening in key sectors already), the actual extent was not. On the other hand, Poland surprised on the upside, confirming our belief that it should be the standout performer in the CE4 this year. The Czech Republic and Hungary continue to perform strongly, with economic sentiment at historically high levels.
