WOOD Flash – Polish retail: tax saga + VAT issue

We attended the press conference of Polska Izba Handlu (PIH, the Polish Chamber Of Trade) today, representing a wide group of small- to mid-sized retailers in Poland, including franchise chains from the Eurocash group. The conference was focused on two major regulatory issues potentially affecting the Polish retail industry: a) the retail tax; and b) pending changes in the VAT regulations. Overall, according to PIH, both the recent proposal for the retail tax (a flat 1.2% rate) and some ideas aimed at improving VAT collection could be deadly for Polish retailers.
