KSE-100 witnessed a volatile session as investors adopted a cautious approach ahead of the Monetary Policy
announcement later in the day. Total market volumes remained low. Bears pulled the benchmark KSE 100 index
lower on the first day of roll-over week. Equity markets around the world showed mixed performance.
* MPC of SBP decided to raise the policy rate by 25bps to 7.25%.
Index Performance
Accumulating 55.15 pts the benchmark KSE 100 index recorded intraday high of 46,691.23. It dropped to day’s low of
46,215.18 losing 420.9 pts. The index ended lower by 107.87 pts at 46,528.21. The KMI 30 index declined by 389.37
pts closing at 74,427.08. While KSE All Share index fell short by 149.93 pts settling at 31,860.27.
Volumes for the day
Overall KSE-100 market volume declined from 163 mn share to 75 mn shares. Highest participation was witnessed in
Telecard Limited (TELE -0.18%), World Call Telecom Limited (WTL -1.85%) and Byco Petroleum Pakistan Limited
(BYCO -1.46%). The scripts had 19.85 mn shares, 13.36 mn shares and 11.30 mn shares traded, respectively.
Contributors to KSE100
Sectors dragging the KSE 100 index lower included Oil and Gas Exploration sector (32.66 pts), Textile Composite
sector (25.88 pts) and Food and Personal Care Products sector (17.11 pts). Company-wise, Oil and Gas Development
Company Limited (OGDC -21.5 pts), Systems Limited (SYS 16.6 pts) and Engro Corporation Limited (ENGRO -13.5 pts)
were top negative contributors.
Selected Sector Performance
The Refinery sector lost 2.20% from its cumulative market capitalization. Attock Refinery Limited (ATRL 2.31%),
Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL 3.11%) and National Refinery Limited (NRL 2.87%) all closed in red.
