Improving its publicity & public profile
​MTK hosted a rare press conference post its AGM this morning. The key point was to improve its public profile as the company has been lobbying the Taiwan Government to open up Chinese investment in Taiwan IC design. Currently, IC design is the only key sub-sector in Taiwan tech with a 100% ban on Chinese investment. Also, for various reasons, MTK seems to have been getting more negative publicity than semiconductor peers (from press, market commentators, politicians, etc.), so it is a good thing to see the company’s PR addressing this issue. In sum, we see this event as a free call option for investors.
