Comcast to Deliver Gigabit Internet Service in Utah over Its Existing Network Infrastructure

Comcast announced today that it is launching a new internet service that will deliver speeds up to 1 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps) to residential customers throughout the state of Utah. Comcast will use DOCSIS 3.1 technology to deliver these speeds over the company’s existing network infrastructure.

“With our 1 Gig residential service, customers in Utah can take advantage of super-fast internet speeds using the existing wiring in their home,” said Merlin Jensen, Area VP of Technical Operations. “We’ve been on a pace of doubling our network capacity every 18 to 24 months, which ensures that we stay well ahead of consumer demand, and we will continue to make investments in Utah.”

“What I am most excited about is that Comcast’s residential 1 gig service is available throughout Utah – not just in specific areas of the state. It’s important that superior internet speeds are accessible to more people,” said Richard Nelson, President, Utah Technology Council. “Comcast continues to play a crucial role in Utah’s leadership as a high-tech community.”

The company’s new 1 Gigabit internet service will use existing communications lines that are already in most people’s homes. As a result, it has the potential to reach more homes even faster and allows for broad deployment across communities. To enjoy the service, all customers need to do is install a new DOCSIS 3.1 compatible cable modem that is capable of delivering gigabit speeds.

The everyday price for 1 Gigabit service in Utah is $159.95, without a contract. Two promotional prices will also be tested in different areas with a one-year service agreement. For example, we will test a $70.00 per month offer in certain areas in Salt Lake City, Provo, and North Ogden, and test a $109.99 per month offer across the rest of the state. Additional prices and promotions may be tested in the future.

New and current customers in the state of Utah can call 1-800-Xfinity to learn about the new service and request additional information.

In Partial Win for Cable, Trump Memoranda Appears to Protect CBRS

Late Friday, President Trump released a new Presidential Memoranda on 6G and Spectrum. While what the Memoranda said is largely a restatement of what we have previously reported, we think the most important element for investors is what it didn’t say; specifically, that by omission it appears to protect the spectrum known as the Citizens Band Radio Services (CBRS) currently used by cable (and others) for wireless services. In this note we provide an analysis of the Memoranda.

CMCSA 4Q25 Preview

We have updated our model for recent management commentary at investor conferences. Changes to our estimates are minor. We expect broadband losses to remain elevated due to heightened competition from fiber and FWA.
