Baidu Brings Multiple Connected Vehicle Solutions and Enterprise Applications with 14 partners to Auto Shanghai 2019

  • Ford showcases four vehicles equipped with SYNC+ in-vehicle infotainment system, co-developed with Baidu

  • DuerOS for Apollo is installed on one of China’s best-selling SUVs

BEIJING, April 18, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Baidu, Inc. (NASDAQ: BIDU) unveiled its latest connected vehicle solutions and enterprise applications with 14 partners at the 18th International Automobile & Manufacturing Technology Exhibition (Auto Shanghai 2019). DuerOS for Apollo, the automotive version of Baidu’s conversational AI platform, is featured in several vehicles from international and domestic automobile makers including Ford Escape and Edge ST, Great Wall Haval H6, Chery EXEED TX/TXL, Hyundai SANTA FE and KIA KX5/KX3. In addition, Baidu showcased its collaboration with Panasonic on a concept car, as well as applications of Apollo Enterprise solutions for the new vehicles by WM Motor.

“Artificial intelligence is transforming the automotive industry. Working with our partners, Baidu is building a new framework for connected vehicle solutions and intelligent transportation, and accelerating the transition of cars to something more than vehicles of transportation. We believe DuerOS for Apollo will bring people a new and improved riding experience. Meanwhile, Apollo Enterprise will play a key role in providing autonomous driving and connected vehicles solutions,” said Zhenyu Li, Vice President and General Manager of Baidu’s Intelligent Driving Group.

DuerOS for Apollo is the foundation for Ford’s SYNC+ in-vehicle infotainment system, which is installed on the four new vehicles being unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2019 – Escape ST-Line, Titanium, Edge ST and ST-Line. This follows a strategic agreement signed in June 2018 between Baidu and Ford China to collaborate on connected car and digital solutions for vehicles. Baidu and Ford co-developed the SYNC+ infotainment based on the DuerOS for Apollo to provide intelligent navigation and entertainment services as well as solutions that integrate vehicles with smart homes. In 2019, many Ford branded cars made in China will be equipped with the jointly-developed SYNC+ infotainment system.

The new Haval H6 by Great Wall Motors, one of the best-selling SUVs in China, comes equipped with DuerOS for Apollo, covering core functions including voice assistant, intelligent navigation, media entertainment, mini program, online payment and data security. In the Haval H6, DuerOS for Apollo offers over 50 mini programs, including online video, e-commerce, travel and after-sales services.

DuerOS for Apollo is also installed on Chery Auto’s fleets on the recently unveiled EXEED TX/TXL SUVs. Leveraging Baidu’s intelligent vehicle systems, EXEED SUVs provide an enhanced experience by integrating the data flow between riders, vehicles, road and the cloud. In addition, DuerOS for Apollo enables Chery EXEED passengers to make in-car payments with facial recognition.

At Auto Shanghai 2019, Hyundai and KIA Motors also introduced several new models of vehicles empowered by DuerOS for Apollo. Moreover, Baidu showcased a concept car with a futuristic cabin built on DuerOS for Apollo in cooperation with Panasonic.

In addition to connected vehicle solutions, applications of Baidu Apollo Enterprise, a suite of intelligent driving products and solutions for commercial production vehicles, were also demonstrated at Auto Shanghai 2019. Baidu’s Intelligent Map is deployed in the new model of vehicles by WM Motor. Based on the agreement signed early this year, Baidu is providing comprehensive Apollo Enterprise autonomous driving solutions to WM Motor.

BIDU 4Q25 Preview: Outlook Remains Intact

What’s New: We maintain our Baidu Core total rev estimates as YoY decline in ads could continue to narrow in 4Q25. AI Cloud infrastructure rev growth could also remain resilient in FY25 despite tougher comps in the other subsegments of cloud. We up our PT from US$140 to US$170 partly due to multiples rerating on AI including a potential IPO of its chip business in 2026. Our updated PT of US$170 implies a 22.6x FY26E P/E. We maintain our BUY rating. Analysts: Jin Yoon
